Additional Classification Information

Public High School Team size determines its competitive division:

  • Small Teams: 2-15 dancers
  • Medium Teams: 16-29 dancers
  • Large Teams: 30-49 dancers
  • Super Teams: 50+ dancers
  • Public Jr. High / Middle School (Team size determines its competitive division)
    • Small / Medium:  2-30 dancers
    • Large / X-large:  31+ dancers

Private High School and Private teams will not be subject to team size guidelines.

All Star / Studio Dance Teams’ grade level of the oldest team member determines their competitive division.  Neither team size nor gender will apply to this classification.  The following system will apply:

  • Grades 1-3
  • Grades 4-6
  • Grades 7-8
  • Grades 9-12
  • Open

Officer lines will compete in the same division as their team.  The same set of officers must participate in each routine entry.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Vista Ridge Dance Championship registration form must be mailed or faxed 14 days prior to the contest date.  You may also register online (see link to the right).  For the convenience of scheduling, please register as early as possible even if you do not have all of your soloist and ensemble names.  Solo and ensemble names must be submitted 14 days before the competition.

Entries received after the deadline will be charged a $25.00 processing fee.

Confirmation packets and contest schedules will be emailed one week prior to the competition.  A preliminary schedule will also be posted on our website the Wednesday before the competition with a final update on the Thursday evening prior to the contest.

CANCELLATION // REFUNDS

No refunds will be made to participants canceling within 14 days of contest date.  Accordingly, all participants with registrations submitted and unpaid within this time frame will remain responsible for the fees should they opt to cancel within 14 days of the contest date.

Refunds must be requested in writing and received at least 14 days prior to competition date.  Phone calls are not acceptable.

All entry fees must be paid by date of the competition or performers may not be allowed to participate in the contest.

In the case of inclement weather or circumstances deemed out of our control, the contest will be rescheduled for the following day, circumstances permitting.  If not the following day, the contest will be scheduled the next available weekend.  NO REFUNDS will be issued to teams/individuals that are not able to attend the alternative date.

DANCE TEAM ROUTINE GUIDELINES

Including set up/ entrances / breakdown / exits, teams have a total of 4 minutes of floor time per routine in Jazz, Hip-Hop, Military, High Kick, Pom, Prop, Lyrical, Modern, Novelty, and Open.  Show Productions will be allotted 10 total minutes.  Entrances and exits are not judged.

Total routine time with set-up and breakdown and backdrops should not exceed time limits itemized above.  A one point penalty per judge per minute will be assessed for exceeding routine time limit.

Performance area for ensembles, officer, and team events is 96′ x 50′. (Regulation Basketball court)

Performance area for duets and solos are on a regulation stage in the auditorium.

All props and backdrops should be taped to avoid damage to wooden floors, and should be constructed to fit through a gymnasium 7′ double door with center cross bar removed.

MUSIC

Music must be submitted prior to the contest to:  vrdcmusic@gmail.com.

When submitting your music it must be in MP3 format and you must provide the following information:

  • Dancers Grade:
  • Song Title:
  • Length of Song:

Make sure to bring a backup of your music on an iPod, MP3 player or iPhone (in airplane mode).  We will not have access to play CDs.

DANCE ENSEMBLE AND SOLO GUIDELINES

Duets, Small, Medium, and Large Ensembles should be 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Solo routines must be limited to 2 minutes.  A 5 point penalty will be assessed if the performer is greater than 2 minutes and 15 seconds. There will be 7 grade divisions offered for solos: PreK-K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12.

JUDGING CRITERIA

A panel of professional judges will provide oral critiques on all Team, Officer Line, Ensemble, and Solo Performances.  Score sheets indicating the numeric scores for each caption will accompany the critiques.

Vista Ridge High School, the POSSE Booster Club, Executive Board, directors, or Leander ISD assumes no liability for personal injury or personal property loss.

PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEOGRAPHY

Personal cameras are permitted, however NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY will be allowed.

Professional Videography will be provided. Personal video cameras are permitted, however no tripods will be allowed.
